Sinem Akgül Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesinden mezun olduktan sonra aynı üniversitede Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları uzmanlığını ve Ergen Sağlığı doktorasını tamamlamış ve halen Ergen sağlığı Bilim Dalı öğretim üyesi olarak görev yapmaktadır. 2016 yılında Pediatri Doçenti olmuş ve 2017 yılında Greif Scholarship bursunu kazanarak Ohio Üniversitesine bağlı Nationwide Children’s Hospital’da 1 yıl Ergen Sağlığı yan dalı yapmıştır. Turkish Journal of Pediatrics yardımcı editörü, Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine publication editorial board ve derneği üyesidir.
Hacettepe Üniversitesi Etik komisyon ve Hacettepe Ünivesitesi Cinsel Tacize Ve Cinsel Saldiriya Karşi Koruma Ve Destek Komisyonu üyesidir. Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Stajı dönem 4 yöneticisi görevini yapmaktadır. Ergen Sağlığı Derneği yönetim kurulu üyesi ve Milli Pediatri Derneği üyesidir.
Cinsiyet uyumsuzluğu olan ergene yaklaşım, ergenlerde cinsel sağlık danışmanlığı, ergenlerde menstrual (adet) problemleri, ergen jinekolojisi, yeme bozuklukları ve ergenlerde madde ve davranışsal bağımlılıklar özel ilgi alanlarındandır.
