Institute of Child Health as well as İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital with a bed capacity of 150 were brought into service by Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı on 8th July 1958. Although the hospital suffered damage by fire in 1961 during its course of rapid improvement, it was re-comissioned within 6 months with a bed capacity of 250. Today, 215,000 outpatients and 11,000 inpatients receive treatment annually at the hospital with a current bed capacity of 270. 60,000 patients are responded in Pediatric Emergency Department annually.

In order to provide exceptional health care services in every field of Pediatrics, sub-departments of Pediatrics such as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Pediatric/Newborn Surgery, Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery, Pediatric Urology, Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Pediatric Plastic Surgery operate under Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital.

Appointments are scheduled on a daily basis at the outpatient clinics where new applications are admitted and, if required, patients are referred to sub-specialties of pediatrics after examinations and tests. Services are also offered for pediatric sub-specialties such as adolescents, allergy-asthma, genetics, metabolism, gastroenterology and nutrition, chest diseases, endocrinology, hematology, immunology, cardiology, infectious diseases, nephrology, rheumatology, neurology, oncology, pathology, social pediatrics, newborn care and intensive care in addition to primary care services. A large number of patients are referred from other health institutions so as to receive a second opinion from such sub-specialties. A 24-hour continuous service is provided in the Emergency Department. Babies and children are vaccinated at Social Pediatrics while the courses of growing and development of healthy babies and children are monitored. Centre of Speech Pathology and Audiology, Research and Clinical Activities Centre of Swallowing Disorders and Children’s Dental Clinic began providing service in 2013.

The requests for examination by the members of academic staff are addressed at the Private Outpatient Clinic of the hospital. Newborn care, neonatal intensive care, infectious diseases units and surgical units in addition to all inpatient service departments and outpatient clinics have been renewed through the renovation activities of the hospital within the recent years, the remainder of the hospital wide renovations are still ongoing. A large number of national and international health care professionals receive training at the hospital which uses state of the art equipment including endoscopy, bronchoscopy, catheterization, echocardiography, electroencephalography devices. The hospital, which combines the newest information with the latest technology in line with its motto “To the Leading Edge, Toward Being the Best” supported by its widespread laboratory facilities and extensive academic staff in every field, receives patients from almost all regions of the country.
