Department of Psychiatry
Our department was established by Prof. Doğan Karan in 1964 while our ward was brought into service in 1967.
Outpatient Clinic of Psychiatry provides service in Adult Hospital to all adult patients who apply with psychiatric disorders. Diagnostic evaluations of patients with psychiatric disorders are made and their treatment plans are planned and carried out in our department. Depression and other mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and other anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, alcohol and substance dependence, marriage and adaptation problems, sexual problems, eating disorders and mental disorders in old age are treated. Patients are evaluated by academic staff, instructors, specialists and residents in our outpatient clinic. In addition to the outpatient clinic service, also a ward with a capacity of 30 beds is available for inpatient care. Outpatient Clinic of Psychiatry provides service on floor B in Adult Hospital while ward provides service in Ward 44 located on the 4th floor of Adult Hospital.
Psychiatric patients are evaluated in our department and their treatment is carried out with medication therapy and psychotherapy. Patients who apply to Main Emergency Department of Hacettepe Hospital in need of emergency care are evaluated by the consultant physician and other members of faculty consulted; and their treatment is addressed. A ward is also available for inpatients. In addition to medication therapy and individual psychotherapy, groups psychoteraphy is also available in our department which also offers the opportunity of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Electroconvulsive treatment is performed with a MECTA spECTrum 5000q. The device, which can generate ultra-brief impulses, allows efficient dose titration. In order to boost the functionality level of our inpatients, ergoteraphy is practices under the supervision of ergoteraphy teacher in charge.
Patients who apply or are referred to our department are examined and evaluated by reviewing all other tests and reports by academic staff, instructors and residents of our department. In the event that a therapy is deemed appropriate, patient is informed and therapy is recommended.

Patients above the age of 17 are examined.
Excluding Tuesday and Thursday mornings, examination is given everyday in the outpatient clinic.
You can receive examination on the weekdays except the educational terms (during the summer term).
The number of patients admitted everyday is determined in accordance with the number of physicians working. Initial examinations are given in the morning and check-ups are given in the afternoon. Patients who do not attend to check-up for more than 6 months are evaluated as initial examination patients.
Our department is located on Floor B in Hacettepe Adult Hospital. It is located 1 floor upstairs upon entering from door no. 4; and 2 floors downstairs upon entering from door no. 7.
