Professor Topeli is a full time intensivist and the Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit in the first and the only accredited ICU by the European Board of Intensive Care Medicine in Turkey. Since January 2012, she has also been the Director of the Adult Hospital of Hacettepe University Hospitals in Ankara. Professor Topeli worked as a fellow with Prof. Dr. Martin Tobin in Loyola University at Chicago, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine from 1996 to 1998. She received American Thoracic Society young investigator award in 2000 and European Respiratory Society COPD local research award in 2001. Professor Topeli is a founding member of Turkish Society of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine which was established in 2005. She was the first president of the society and assisted in the organization of 10 National, 8 regional and 2 International Meetings. Since 2013, she has been elected as a council member of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine. She is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine, has given more than 100 lectures and is the author of more than 80 scientific manuscripts and book chapters.
